BENGALURU: Newly sworn-in Karnataka Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah
on Saturday blamed
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
for the state suffering a loss as its genuine unique grant of Rs 5,495 crore discussed in the interim report of the 15th Finance Commission was not provided to it.
Hours after taking oath as Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah stated the previous BJP federal government too not did anything for the state to recuperate its due.
“In the interim report of the 15th Finance Commission, it was suggested that Karnataka ought to get an unique grant of Rs 5,495 crore, which the BJP federal government in Karnataka did not use up. Existed any federal government which did more damage to the state?” Siddaramaiah informed press reporters.
“Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman eliminated it from the last report. And she is a Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka. Since of Narendra Modi, Karnataka suffered a loss,” he charged.
“We are entitled legally to that interim relief of Rs 5,495 crore, which is not a percentage. It’s our loss. The previous BJP federal government in Karnataka, 25 BJP MPs consisting of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi did not ask the Centre,” he declared.
According to him, Karnataka’s contribution to the main taxes is around Rs 4 lakh crore.
The Finance Commission is a constitutional body formed by the President to give ideas on centre-state monetary relations, consisting of requirements for grants, devolution of taxes, and so on. The 15th Finance Commission was chaired by N K Singh and the suggestions of its report for the fiscal years 2021-26 duration was tabled in Parliament in February 2021.
